Mazghouny & Co took part in the workshop organised by Al-Ahram Center for Political & Strategic Studies and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung in Cairo on 03 August 2021, to discuss the opportunities and hurdles facing the energy transition in Egypt.
Donia El-Mazghouny, Mazghouny & Co’s Managing Partner, presented the legislative outlook for energy transition in Egypt during the second panel of the workshop shared with the Deputy CEO of the Egyptian Gas Regulatory Authority (GASREG), and the Deputy Chairman of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), and chaired by the ACPSS Manager, in the presence of the Head of Energy Studies Program of the ACPSS and present and past executive chairmen of the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) and Egyptian Electric Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency (EgyptERA).
The main pieces of legislation governing the energy sector in Egypt were discussed, in comparison with the French model of the unified “Code de l’énergie“, as well as the main points of energy policy unclarity and slow implementation of electricity market liberalisation in Egypt, concluding with a number of recommendations for the efficient transition of the energy market to zero-carbon.
