Mazghouny & Co assists Scatec with its cooperation agreement signed with EgyptAlum for the development of the largest C&I solar project in Egypt

Mazghouny & Co has advised the Norwegian integrated renewable energy and green fuel developer Scatec on its cooperation agreement with Misr Aluminium Company (EgyptAlum), signed on 20 February 2024, for the development of a 1GW solar PV power project to feed the aluminium facility in Nagaa Hammadi in the South of Egypt. The project will upon completion be the largest in the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector in Egypt, and will power part of the aluminium facility and support the achievement of its sustainability goals.

EgyptAlum is the largest aluminium producer in the country and one of the largest in Africa, and is an affiliate of Egypt’s Metallurgical Industries Holding Company, a Public Business Sector holding company. It has been producing molten aluminium in its facility in Nagaa Hammadi since 1975, with a capacity of up to 320,000 tonnes per year, in the form of various cast products, rolled products, extrusions, and prebaked anode blocks, in addition to different types of spare parts for the company and third parties.

Our Energy & Power team has supported Scatec with the drafting of the cooperation agreement for this landmark project and its negotiation with EgyptAlum.
